Specialized Hoof Rehabilitation for complex Pathologies

Laminitis & Founder

Complex & Chronic Hoof Conditions

Laminitis & Founder

Laminitis is a complex condition—and effective rehabilitation requires a practitioner who understands the full medical, mechanical, and metabolic picture. With a strong veterinary foundation and extensive experience working with complex hoof pathology, Florida Hoof Care provides evidence‑based, individualized rehabilitation for horses suffering from acute laminitis, chronic founder, metabolic disorders, and mechanically induced hoof damage.

We specialize in identifying and addressing the many pathways that lead to laminitis, including:

  • Acute inflammatory laminitis triggered by systemic illness, fever, infection, or endotoxemia
  • Metabolic laminitis associated with insulin resistance, Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS), obesity, and PPID
  • Chronic laminitis and founder with rotation, sinking, distortion, or long‑term mechanical collapse
  • Traumatic or mechanical laminitis caused by excessive concussion, overloading, or compensatory weight‑bearing
  • Nutritional laminitis related to high‑sugar forage, pasture changes, or dietary imbalance
  • Stress‑related or secondary laminitis following injury, stall rest, or systemic strain

Navicular Syndrome

Complex & Chronic Hoof Conditions

Laminitis & Founder

Florida Hoof Care provides a comprehensive, biomechanics‑focused approach to restoring comfort and long‑term soundness in horses diagnosed with navicular syndrome or caudal heel pain.

We address the full spectrum of contributing factors, including:

  • Caudal hoof under‑run or collapsed heels
  • Long toe–low heel mechanics
  • Deep digital flexor tendon strain
  • Navicular bone remodeling or inflammation
  • Compensatory gait patterns and chronic landing dysfunction
  • Chronic thrush and deep sulcus infections

Our rehabilitation program focuses on restoring heel-first landing, improving hoof capsule integrity, and reducing mechanical stress on the navicular apparatus. Through precision trimming, movement‑appropriate management, and collaboration with your veterinarian for imaging and diagnostics, we create a tailored plan that supports both immediate comfort and long‑term improvement.

Whether your horse is newly diagnosed or has struggled with chronic navicular pain for years, we provide the specialized care needed to help them move comfortably and confidently again.

Complex & Chronic Hoof Conditions

Complex & Chronic Hoof Conditions

Complex & Chronic Hoof Conditions

Many horses struggle with long‑standing or structurally complex issues that require more than routine trimming. Florida Hoof Care provides specialized support for horses with conformational abnormalities, chronic hoof distortions, and musculoskeletal compensation patterns.

We work with horses experiencing:

  • Club foot and flexural deformities
  • High‑low hoof syndrome and uneven limb loading
  • Ringbone and sidebone
  • Chronic soft‑tissue strain involving the DDFT, collateral ligaments, or suspensory apparatus
  • Musculoskeletal injuries that alter gait, posture, and hoof wear patterns
  • Long‑term compensatory movement leading to distortion, imbalance, or caudal hoof collapse

Our approach focuses on restoring functional balance, improving landing mechanics, and reducing the mechanical stresses that contribute to pain and progression. Through precision trimming, careful evaluation of movement, and collaboration with veterinarians for imaging and diagnostics, we develop individualized plans that support both hoof integrity and whole‑horse biomechanics.

These cases are rarely simple—but with the right combination of knowledge, patience, and evidence‑based care, many horses regain comfort, stability, and improved long‑term function.

Our pricing

Our standard trim fee is $50, and every new horse receives a free initial consultation (consultation does not include trim). We understand that many horses come to us with urgent or long‑term medical needs, so we offer flexible payment options and special pricing for unique circumstances, including complex cases requiring more frequent trims schedules. Our goal is to ensure every horse receives the care they need, without financial barriers standing in the way.

Our Scheduling

For most horses, we recommend a 4‑week trim cycle to maintain proper balance, support healthy growth, and prevent distortion. Some cases—such as those involving coffin bone rotation, active laminitis, or rapid mechanical change—may require shorter intervals, while others may do well on a slightly longer schedule. Every horse is evaluated individually so their trim frequency supports their specific needs and pathology.
